March 2012

Dear Lake Lackawanna Residents,

We have finally completed the dredge work that we were doing with the funds acquired through the DEP loan.  We were able to remove well over 2,500 truckloads of sediment from the lake and allow access to at least 14 homes that had little or no access before.  A much better water flow to the back coves will improve water quality and enhance wildlife in those areas.

The project was supposed to include the entire back cove but due to the unanticipated depth of the material encountered, the machinery was unable to move through it without a roadway.  The roadway was put in and both sides of it were cleared making a 150 to 200 foot cut along the shoreline and connecting to the inlet.  The roadway was removed as they worked back out.  This was more costly than expected but we were still able to fill the dumpsite and remove a large amount of material and accomplish clearing of 8 to 10 acres.

We are going to continue to treat the lake using Allied Biological and are hoping to have another great summer season.  Water tests proved that water quality improved last season and we are anticipating that this year it will be even better.  There will be fewer weeds to treat in the area that was dredged which will allow other areas to be treated therefore cleaning even more of the lake area for usage.

Due to rising taxes and property maintenance, membership this year will see a small increase of $25.00 for a full membership.  There are 315 homes in the lake area and we have only 150 members.  The money collected from the membership is used for the necessary bills leaving nothing extra.

All the things that you may or may not see being done around the community such as mowing grass at beach, boat landing and clubhouse; maintenance of clubhouse, beach and landing is all done by volunteers and paid for by the same.  No one gets paid for doing work or for materials used.  Please come to a LLIC Board of Directors meeting (third Tuesday of the month) and share your ideas for the community or tell us about your willingness to volunteer to help.

There are many residents that do not join and do not contribute but yet take full advantage of the beauty of our lake and our community.  We hope everyone will encourage their friends and neighbors to join the lake and help with the maintenance and future of the lake.

We look forward to having a great season.

Thank You,

Thomas Falleni

President, LLIC Board of Directors
